Our Maple Mould and Deckle sets are made with frames of finger-jointed ¾” square maple fastened using stainless steel staples. The mould features our heat-shrink polypropylene screening held by staples and epoxy glue.
Although you can use these as is, the frames will last longer if you finish them with a waterproof varnish. This will reduce warping and prevent raising of the grain of the wood (which would snag pulp fibres). The varnish should be worked into the corner joints as much as possible but should not be allowed to dry on the screen since this would block the screen openings.
These are available in two sizes: 5½×8½” and 8½×11″.
